How to clean non-porous hard floors with chemicals?

First I think it’s important to establish what non-porous hard floors are. These floors would be floors covered with ceramic tiles, terrazzo, granite, slate, sealed marble or sealed cement. These floors are not able to soak up any liquids and if something is spilt it will pool on top of the floor.

How to use your washing machine

Using your washing machine properly will also save you a lot of badly washed clothes and linen. It’s worth taking a little extra time to get it right the first time then you won’t be wasting time, electricity and water by having to redo laundry.

Don’t try to jam too much into your washing machine. When loading your machine you will need to know what load size your machine can handle. Most washing machines are around 5-6kg. Washing laundry

Before you even start to do your laundry, you’ll need to get organised. Whether you are doing your laundry at home or running a laundry business, you’ll need to stick to certain guidelines to ensure that the fabrics being washed last for as long as possible. Poor washing habits can age fabrics well before their time.

First things first: Sort your stuff

Sorting laundry should not just be about sorting lights from darks. If an item is white it should only be washed with white items. Even if a fabric is beige, the dye can transfer to other fabrics leaving whites looking dull. Wherever possible try to wash similar colours together.

Washing items with similar dirt levels is also a good idea. 3.  Always use safety gear. If you are cleaning, you will need to be careful. Some people are also more sensitive than others and just washing dishes with ordinary dishwashing detergent can send some people into a bout of eczema or dermatitis. How to clean your workshop - Part1

Cleaning a workshop can be a major challenge. Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Brickwash

For cleaning floors that have been exposed to building work where excess cement has dropped on the floor and not been cleaned up in time, you will need to use a seriously strong cleaning chemical.

For this level of cleaning a plain cement floor, I would recommend a Blendwell Chemicals product called Brickwash. This cleaning chemical is a highly acidic detergent blend and must be handled with great care.  It works really well on floors that have not been cleaned for a long time but have a large amount of grease build-up. It also works really well as a primer if you want to paint the floor afterwards – just be sure to rinse all of the cleaning chemical off and allow to dry before attempting to paint.

It is also effective at removing cement left over from building work as well as cleaning away lime discolouration left on stone and bricks. Always use full safety gear when handling this product as it is highly acidic. If you choose to use this cleaning chemical it should only be for once off cleaning. If used repeatedly it can strip away the floor completely. Do not use on a painted floor if you want the paint to remain.

Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Maxikleen

When cleaning your factory or workshop floor lifting all the grease and grime that exists is something that is not that easy to do but is very necessary.  You may need to use some powerful cleaning chemicals to help you achieve this goal.

Industrial Cleaning - Engine Cleaning - RTU

When cleaning engines you will need to decide on what type of chemical product you will need to use. Choosing between a solvent cleaner or a water-based cleaner will be decided upon depending on what level of grease you are dealing with and how sensitive is the environment you are cleaning in.

If you have chosen a solvent cleaner then you may want to consider a cleaning chemical like Blendwell Chemicals RTU. RTU is a ready to use solvent degreaser. You will not need to dilute this product before use. RTU is solvent based and has added emulsifiers and degreasers. This cleaning chemical has exceptional grease cutting power and does not leave any residue behind. RTU is best used when brushed onto the surface to be cleaned or you can also use a spray gun. Leave the chemical on the surface undisturbed for 10 minutes and then wash off with excess water.

Industrial Cleaning - Engine Cleaning

When cleaning engines, there are a few different ways you can approach this cleaning job. 

This is generally a huge task and to choose the right method for you is important.

If you have a high pressure cleaner you can use it for cleaning or alternatively if you do not you may want to brush or spray the chemical onto the surfaces to be cleaned.

You could also use a dip tank as we will discuss in detail later (this can also be called a soak tank cleaner). Your final option would then be a parts cleaner (also sometimes called a bupi machine).

When it comes to the cleaning chemical you would want to use you then have the option of solvent – based or water – based.  Typically a solvent works better and faster. The problem is when you have cleaned the engine and rinse off the used cleaning chemical then runs into the drain and ultimately into watercourses. A solvent has a much greater negative impact on the environment than a water-based degreaser.

One more thing to watch out for is if you have chosen a solvent degreaser, make sure that it is a mixture of degreaser and detergent. When the product is rinsed off, the cleaning chemical will go with it. This means that there will be no residue left behind. This residue can be a huge attractor of dirt if left in place.

How to clean a jungle gym

Wow, it’s Friday again. It is time for the weekend. Inevitably, for me weekends seem to mean time to catch up on doing all those things that I’ve been putting off for a really long time. One job that I have promised myself I will tackle this weekend is cleaning my kid’s jungle gym. From far it looks fine but I don’t like people getting too close to it.

This job is going to require some ordinary household gloves, a garden hose, a sponge and some detergent. For this particular job I’m going to be using one of the Delphis Eco products. For my jungle gym I will be diluting 100ml of Neutral Detergent with 10 litres of water.

First, hose down the jungle gym with water. Then dip the sponge in the solution that you have just made up. Wipe all the surfaces and spray with water when finished. Be sure not to scrub any painted or plastic surfaces as these will scratch and dirt can become ingrained. In the case of it being a painted metal surface, you may then find that rust becomes a problem.

What is industrial cleaning? - Part 2

I previously discussed some words that you will come across when dealing with industrial cleaning products. Today, I will discuss a few more terms.

We have spoken about pH and how a substance is either neutral, acid or alkali. The term alkali refers to when a substance has a pH reading of more than 7 and is able to dissolve in water. When a cleaning product has a neutral pH it means that it has a pH of 7. Pure water would have a pH of 7.

The term acid would then refer to a substance with a pH of less than 7. An acidic substance is able to neutralise an alkali substance as well as dissolve some metals.

Any substance that is excessively acid or alkali must be handled with extreme care.

You will probably also come across a word like emulsify or emulsification. Emulsification occurs when a layer of fat or grease is broken down into small particles and is able to be suspended. This would be useful when cleaning a surface that is very greasy. By breaking down the layer of grease into smaller particles, it becomes much easier to wash it away.

Usually in industrial cleaning you will be looking at two types of cleaners: either detergents or degreasers. Detergents are chemical cleaning products that are made up of chemical compounds and act like soap. Soap would typically be made from fats and lye.

A degreaser is a chemical product that is able to dissolve water insoluble substances like fats and grease.
