How to use your washing machine

Using your washing machine properly will also save you a lot of badly washed clothes and linen. It’s worth taking a little extra time to get it right the first time then you won’t be wasting time, electricity and water by having to redo laundry.

Don’t try to jam too much into your washing machine. When loading your machine you will need to know what load size your machine can handle. Most washing machines are around 5-6kg. If you consider that a wool jersey can weigh up to a kilogram and a duvet cover can weigh 1.5kg this load size is quickly reached. When a washing machine is overloaded, the fabrics inside do not have proper space to move and end up having only sections getting detergent and these sections are usually not rinsed out properly either. You may even find lumps of washing powder in your supposedly washed laundry.

Use the right amount of washing detergent for the load of laundry you are washing. This may change from load to load so be sure you are using enough. You may find that if you are not using enough your whites will become yellow or grey very quickly.

Tips for getting your laundry done right

Here are a few tips for avoiding washing disasters. They only take a moment of time to do but can save you from a huge mess.

Use a laundry bag for items that can get wrapped up in other items like bikini tops with long ties. You’ll also want to put stockings and pantyhose in the laundry bag. By doing this you will prevent them from stretching and tearing unnecessarily.

Empty all those pockets and also check that things like tissues haven’t been shoved inside shirt sleeves. Pay particular attention to children’s clothes otherwise it is likely that you will be washing rocks, crayons and who knows what else.

Also close zippers and any zelcro to prevent unnecessary snagging. Zelcro is particularly good at attracting lint and this makes it ineffective.

When washing denim, turn it inside out and close whatever zippers or buttons there are. This will prevent the colour from fading unevenly.

Washing laundry

Before you even start to do your laundry, you’ll need to get organised. Whether you are doing your laundry at home or running a laundry business, you’ll need to stick to certain guidelines to ensure that the fabrics being washed last for as long as possible. Poor washing habits can age fabrics well before their time.

First things first: Sort your stuff
Sorting laundry should not just be about sorting lights from darks. If an item is white it should only be washed with white items. Even if a fabric is beige, the dye can transfer to other fabrics leaving whites looking dull. Wherever possible try to wash similar colours together.

Washing items with similar dirt levels is also a good idea. If there are some fabrics which are very greasy and oily in your load, it is likely that this grease will spread to other fabrics that may not be so greasy. If you have some items that are really dirty, you may want to put just a few of them in the machine together and use the most detergent that you can per load, to give them the best chance of getting clean.

Where you can, it will also save time to wash similar fabrics together. This way you can wash your delicate fabrics on a gentler cycle and your more robust fabrics can get the clean they need. This will also save you lint transfer to certain fabrics.

How to clean your car without the schlep

I'm all for doing things in a way that is quicker, easier and gives me better results. My car is one of my prized possessions that suffers enormous abuse because I just don't have the time, energy or inclination to clean it. Yes, I know, I could pay someone to do it but that is money that could go towards something fun for the family. Excuses, excuses....

But now, I've found something that works incredibly well and it's so quick and without any of the usual fuss. Blendwell Cleaning Solutions has an amazing product called Waterless Carwash. Wow, it really is simple to use. Normally, when I wash my car the first ten minutes are spent trying to find all the things I'll need, parking my car in the right place, searching for the garden hose which inevitably has been chewed by one of the dogs and so it goes....I also have to change clothes because I will get soaked in the process even if there isn't some mischievous child hanging around thinking it's so fun to play with water.

I used this new wonder cleaning product from Blendwell Cleaning Solutions the other day and I cleaned my car in the garage! I didn't have to search for a million things and it took me no more than ten minutes from start to finish. I simply sprayed the Waterless Carwash onto my car and wiped away with a cloth. The cloth was pretty disgusting by the time I had finished but my car sparkled like it was new. It also used no water so there was no wastage of our precious resources. Even if I had cleaned my car the traditional way I would not have been able to get it looking as good in three times the amount of time. I love this cleaning product!

For more information on this and all the cleaning products available from Blendwell Cleaning Solutions please visit www.blendwell.co.za. You will be able to find all the cleaning chemicals you need at their factory in Midrand, South Africa. We are your best cleaning products wholesaler!

Do you know how to wash your hands?

This may sound like a ridiculous question but many people are in too much of a hurry to clean their hands properly and they think a cleaning their hands only involves them quickly wetting their hands. This is not enough.  Then there are other people who believe in only using a soap with claims of being anti-bacterial. For ordinary household and office hand cleaning it is not necessary to go this far. There have also been studies that show that people who use a lot of anti-bacterial soap are also more likely to have skin problems like eczema and are therefore more likely to spread bacteria as it can then “hide” in the damaged areas of their skin. You would be better off with washing your hands often and you will be keeping them cleaner than occasional washing with a disinfectant soap.

Blendwell Cleaning Solutions makes a large range of hand cleaners and liquid hand soaps. Each of their hand cleaning products has been created for specific uses in different environments. It would be unnecessary and impractical to clean your hands before preparing dinner with an industrial hand cleaner. We also make some eco-friendly hand soaps.

Please visit www.blendwell.co.za for more information on cleaning products. Please look out for my next instalment as I will discuss hand washing procedure. Blendwell Cleaning Solutions factory is in Halfway House, South Africa. We are your local cleaning chemical manufacturer!

Why do hands need to stay clean? HACCP

Keeping hands clean no matter what you are doing is a simple and effective way to avoid diseases spreading. In the food industry this is even more important.

There are many diseases that can spread in food preparation areas if hands are not cleaned using proper washing procedures. The diseases that can be spread by dirty hands can cause a myriad of ailments.

The shigella bug can cause diarrhoea and streptococci can give you a sore throat. Haemophilus can cause pink eye to spread and streptococcus pneumoniae can give you pneumonia. Pseudomonas can infect wounds and Hepatitis A will cause jaundice and diarrhoea. Staphylococcus will create boils. E Coli and bacteroides will spread if hands are not washed after toilet use.

None of these germs need to be spread if hands are washed regularly and properly and good manufacturing procedures are followed. For more information on HACCP compliant cleaning chemicals please visit www.blendwell.co.za/Food_Industry_Cleaning_Products. Blendwell Cleaning Solutions is able to supply many different hand-cleaning products depending on your requirements. We are your local cleaning chemical supplier.

How to clean your office the eco-friendly way - Part 3

When arranging the cleaning chemicals for your offices it is going to be necessary to consider each different area and what type of cleaning product is required for that area. Wherever possible you’ll also want to consider using green cleaning products for the health of the people who work in the office as well as the environment.

The Delphis Eco range of cleaning products is an amazing range of products to use they are cost effective, safe and have great cleaning power. Most offices have their own kitchen areas and for this area I would recommend the Delphis Eco Anti-bacterial Sanitiser. This eco-friendly cleaning product should be used on food preparation surfaces, food storage areas as well as eating areas. How to clean your office the eco-friendly way - Part 1

Office suites require many different types of cleaning to get them properly clean. There is not one cleaning chemical you can use for the entire area and the cleaning products that you use you may need to use them differently in different areas.

It has become more necessary for companies to be more responsible in how they clean and which products they choose. The need to go green with your cleaning products is no longer something that only a select few can do. With the prices of eco-friendly cleaning products coming down there is no longer any excuse for companies to not choose green. The Delphis Eco range of green cleaning chemicals will also give you peace of mind that the products you are choosing are as good as if not better than any traditional cleaners you may have used before.

In your toilet areas and kitchen it will be necessary to have some hand soap. I would recommend having a dispenser for a liquid soap like Delphis Eco’s Hand Soap. This liquid hand soap will allow everyone to clean their hands in a clean and hygienic way. The awesome thing about this hand soap is that it will not dry the skin out so use can use it as often as you need to. This eco-friendly cleaning product is also fully biodegradable and safe for people and the environment.

How to clean your car - Part 6

There are many different parts on your car and all these different parts require different types of cleaning. The way you would clean the paintwork on your car would not be the same for the windows. Cleaning the windows is really easy and well worth the effort.

First things first, make sure you’re wearing your gloves and safety eyewear. A cleaning product that works really well for this is Blendwell Chemicals Window Cleaner. What’s nice about their Window Cleaner is that it is a dilutable cleaning product unlike the cleaning products you would buy in the supermarket. As a concentrated product you save money in the long run. You will need a spray bottle.

If your spray bottle is a litre size, fill the bottle with 100ml of Window Cleaner and the rest to be filled with water. Spray the windows of your car with this cleaning solution and wipe away with a squeegee. You will also need a cloth for the edges. If you do not have a squeegee, you could use a soft cloth. A microfiber cloth would be ideal as this will leave fewer streaks. It is best to start with the insides of your windows and when you’re finished you can move onto the outside windows. Usually the outside of the windows would be dirtier than the inside so start with the cleaner parts of the windows to avoid spreading the dirt to the cleaner windows. Always wipe the windows until they are dry for sparkly glass. Use another cloth to help dry if necessary.

Cleaning the windows of your car is a necessary step that will help you stay safe in your car. Blendwell Chemicals makes this fantastic Window Cleaner and many other cleaning chemicals. Please visit www.blendwell.co.za to view our range of cleaning chemicals. Blendwell Chemicals has a factory in Midrand South Africa and is your local cleaning chemical supplier!

How to clean your car - Part 5

Previously we discussed tips on car cleaning. Here are some more to help you along.

Having proper cloths and sponges will also give you better results. An extra large sponge will make washing your car a lot easier. I’m not talking about the type of sponge you might use in the bath but rather something about 3 times bigger than that. Any cloths that you use will need to be soft cloths that do not have ridges on them. If the cloth is not very soft then you could end up accidently scratching the paintwork. It is preferable to have cloths and sponges that you only use for washing your car. If these items are used to clean other things then before you clean your car give the cloths and sponge a thorough clean so that they do not spread chemicals from the other detergents they come into contact with.

It’s also a good idea to use different cloths for cleaning different areas of your car. If you clean the wheels you’ll have a really dirty cloth or sponge and you cannot then clean the rest of the car with that. Rather invest in a sponge for paintwork, a soft cloth for the windows to be followed by a squeegee and then another cloth for the wheels. You will also need a separate set of cloths for cleaning plastic parts inside and out. For buffing the car after cleaning, it would be a great idea to buy a chamois. A microfiber cloth could act as a replacement for buffing. For the windows, a small squeegee will give you great results.

On the inside of the car, having a powerful vacuum makes the job infinitely easier. The vacuum having the correct nozzles to fit into all the small spaces in your car will help too. Always use a fresh cloth for the inside parts of your car. Some people like to use a liquid silicon product to shine the inside plastic parts. I find an aerosol spray is easiest to use and it’s really quick with less chance of making a mess if I drop it.

These tips should go a long way to help you with your car cleaning. If you have any more please let me know. You can find all the cleaning chemicals you need for cleaning your car at Blendwell Chemicals. Please visit our website at www.blendwell.co.za  to see what other exciting cleaning products we manufacture. We have a factory in Halfway House, South Africa. How to clean your car - Part 4

Making cleaning your car easier

Whatever you happen to be cleaning there are always tricks and tips to make the job happen faster and easier. Cleaning your car is no different. If you don’t do it right you will definitely be left with results that are less than desirable.

When cleaning your car it’s a good idea to find the right spot to clean it. You need to be close to a tap so that your hose will be able to reach all the way around the car. Your car being wet thoroughly and rinsed properly is going to make it easier to clean. Using a proper spray attachment on your hose will help – it definitely makes cleaning the wheels easier. This spot also needs to be out of direct sunlight. If you wash your car in full sun, the chemical dries too fast on it and will leave streaks.

What you clean your car with can also affect how easily it cleans. Do not wash your car with dish washing liquid. This type of detergent will simply strip all the wax off your car and not replace any of it. Car wash cleaning products should contain some wax to replace what it removes and therefore be gentler on the paintwork. Always use products designed for car cleaning.

These tips should give you a great start to a clean car. There will be another article with further tips following shortly so look out for it. You would be able to buy everything you need to clean cars from Blendwell Chemicals. We have a factory in Midrand, South Africa and manufacture a huge range of cleaning chemicals. How to clean your car - Part 3

There are many different ways to clean your car and we have now discussed two ways but now we will talk about how to polish your car. Polishing your car just gives it that extra sparkle. There is nothing quite like a coat of polish to make it shine.

A product like Blendwell Chemicals Car Polish can easily revive old paint work as well as help remove small scratches. Obviously, if you have scratched right through the paintwork you will need to re spray to get it looking like new but minor scratches can disappear. Applying a coat of Car Polish will also help repel water from your car. Even though this product has been designed to be gentle on skin as always I recommend you make sure to wear gloves when using this product.

After washing your car and making sure it’s dry, you can begin to polish your car. Use a soft cloth to apply a small amount of polish to a small area of your car. If you try to use too much polish at once you will find that it will take a really long time to polish your car and it will be rather messy too.  Make sure to cover all areas of paintwork. When the polish is dry you can use another clean soft cloth to rub off the polish and buff your car. You could use a buffing machine if you have one. Make sure you haven’t missed any spots. Your car will now be looking more fabulous than ever.

For more information on Car Polish and all the other fabulous cleaning chemicals that Blendwell Chemicals manufactures please visit www.blendwell.co.za Blendwell chemicals has a factory near Johannesburg in South Africa. We are your local cleaning chemical supplier
