5 ways to clean driveways, forecourts and workshop floors

How do I clean stainless steel floors in a food factory?

What cleaning chemicals will clean a porous floor?

Hard flooring that is porous will be cleaned in differently from a floor that is non-porous. A porous floor will allow water to stink into it and these types of floors would include – brinks, untreated cement, terracotta and unglazed ceramics.

When using traditional cleaning chemicals you will want to use a cleaning product like floor scrub on these floors. Floor Scrub has been specifically designed to be used in a floor scrubbing machine. It is a low foaming cleaning product that is very effective at removing oil, grease and water-soluble soils.

How to HACCP clean non-porous hard floors?

When you have to clean a floor in a food factory, restaurant or industrial kitchen it’s necessary to follow the HACCP guidelines and use HACCP compliant cleaning chemicals. How to clean non-porous hard floors with chemicals?

First I think it’s important to establish what non-porous hard floors are. These floors would be floors covered with ceramic tiles, terrazzo, granite, slate, sealed marble or sealed cement. These floors are not able to soak up any liquids and if something is spilt it will pool on top of the floor.

What type of floors do I have?

How to clean your workshop - Part1

Cleaning a workshop can be a major challenge. There is usually a huge amount of grease that needs to be cleaned and grease and grime can quickly and easily get out of hand and create big problems in this environment. Besides, it not looking nice it can also be a safety hazard as floors become really slippery and injuries are just waiting to happen.

Cleaning with HACCP

When adopting the HACCP method of cleaning your kitchen or food factory there are very specific ways to clean. There are different types of cleaning involved. Maintenance cleaning will be vastly different from deep cleaning. The frequency of cleaning here is the absolute minimum cleaning that should occur.

Contact surfaces must be cleaned continuously . Floors in kitchens and food factories should be cleaned after each shift. Daily cleaning is required for ovens, stove tops, grills, bain-maries and plate warmers. Waste bins will also need thorough daily cleaning. Walls and ceilings in kitchens should be cleaned once a week. Cleaning out grease traps and floor drains should also be done once a week.

Wherever possible it is best to have liquid cleaning chemicals provided to staff in spray bottles. Areas should then be cleaned using colour-coded cloths or brushes.

Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Yellow Floor Powder

Cleaning workshop floors is no easy task but with the right cleaning chemicals it can be made a whole lot easier. Blendwell Chemicals manufactures a large range of cleaning chemicals and is sure to have the right cleaning chemical for you to clean your workshop floors.

If the floor was really dirty and you cleaned it with Brickwash to get it clean you will not want to continue using Brickwash as the floor will strip away. Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Brickwash

For cleaning floors that have been exposed to building work where excess cement has dropped on the floor and not been cleaned up in time, you will need to use a seriously strong cleaning chemical.

For this level of cleaning a plain cement floor, I would recommend a Blendwell Chemicals product called Brickwash. This cleaning chemical is a highly acidic detergent blend and must be handled with great care.  It works really well on floors that have not been cleaned for a long time but have a large amount of grease build-up. It also works really well as a primer if you want to paint the floor afterwards – just be sure to rinse all of the cleaning chemical off and allow to dry before attempting to paint.

It is also effective at removing cement left over from building work as well as cleaning away lime discolouration left on stone and bricks. Always use full safety gear when handling this product as it is highly acidic. If you choose to use this cleaning chemical it should only be for once off cleaning. If used repeatedly it can strip away the floor completely. Do not use on a painted floor if you want the paint to remain.

Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Maxikleen

When cleaning your factory or workshop floor lifting all the grease and grime that exists is something that is not that easy to do but is very necessary.  You may need to use some powerful cleaning chemicals to help you achieve this goal.

A fabulous cleaning product to consider is Blendwell Chemicals Maxikleen. Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning - Wac GP Cleaner

Cleaning floors in a workshop is no small feat so you’ll want to do it right the first time. There are a few options that I have already discussed but there is always Wac GP Cleaner.

This cleaning chemical is an awesome cleaning chemical to have as a stock item. It can be used to clean just about anything that can tolerate water. This cleaning product is a combination of a detergent and a degreaser. While the degreasing agents in this cleaning product work to lift the dirt and grease from the surface the detergent helps to wash it away. Wac GP Cleaner complies with the SABS 1344 mark.

For cleaning your factory or workshop floor, you will need to use this cleaning chemical at a dilution of 1:5. This will mean that for 5 litres of cleaning solution, you will need one litre of Wac GP Cleaner and four litres of water. You can then use a broom to work this cleaning chemical into your floor, leave for a few minutes to let it work and rinse clean.

Industrial Cleaning - Floor Cleaning

When it comes to cleaning in an industrial environment, having the right cleaning chemicals and using the right tools is vitally important. You can save yourself a lot of time and energy by using the right equipment.

How to clean vinyl floors - Part 3

Now that you have those floors looking fabulously clean and shiny, you can spend a little time admiring your work. Unfortunately, like everything, it won’t stay looking like that forever. You will need to do some maintenance.

The next time your floor needs some cleaning after using the Sureshine polymer polish, I suggest you use a cleaning product like Blendwell Chemicals Clean Mop for maintaining that shiny floor. This is a really easy product to use. As with all cleaning products, please ensure that you wear safety eyewear, gloves and suitable clothes and shoes.

You will need to pour one cup or 250ml of Clean Mop into a bucket and fill up the bucket to make a quantity of 10 litres. Using a mop or a cloth wash the floor and allow to dry. It’s as easy as that!

How to clean vinyl floors - Part 1

Keeping vinyl floors clean and shiny is not as hard as you think. This type of flooring is often found in hospitals, offices, shops and homes. These floors can handle a great deal of liquid being spilt on them and general wear and tear without getting damaged. They make the ideal type of flooring for many spaces.

If liquid polymer polish has been used it will be necessary to use a stripper as the floor will not look its best with the build-up that will result. An ideal cleaning product to use is Blendwell Chemicals Stripper. This cleaning product will not be able to strip a hard wax polish but works brilliantly with a liquid polymer polish.

Depending on the area to be cleaned you may wish to use Blendwell Chemicals Stripper NA. This cleaning product does not contain ammonia which makes it ideal for use in hospitals where a smell of ammonia cannot be tolerated.  

To mix up a 10 litre solution of cleaning product, take 500ml (half a litre) and put it in an empty bucket. Then fill up the bucket to make it 10 litres in total. Using a mop, cover the floor with this solution. Leave for 10 minutes to allow the cleaning product to react. Then take a soft broom or a mop and rub the floor. It will be necessary to rinse the floor with water after using this cleaning product. Please make sure that this process is done when floors have been cordoned off and people will not accidently slip on the wet floor. Please ensure that safety eyewear, gloves and shoes are worn when using this cleaning product.
