Spread of bacteria stops here!

Using the right cleaning chemicals is important. Using those cleaning products the right way is vital. Using the correct cleaning accessories makes all the difference. So you think you’ve got it covered?

What about cleaning your cleaning accessories? When was the last time your sponges, clothes, brooms and mops got cleaned? This is a breeding ground for all sorts of germs and bacteria. If you’re taking the time to do some cleaning, cleaning your cleaning accessories is worth the effort.

You can put your clothes and sponges in the dishwasher when you’re running a load of dishes to expose them to some high temperature cleaning. Brooms should be brushed out and mops can be given and quick scrub. When you have washed these items, be sure to put them in a sunny spot to dry out. If they have the chance to dry out every day they will be less likely to carry bacteria.

Do you have the right stuff?

When it comes to cleaning having the right things to clean with will make the world of difference. Trying to clean a kitchen floor with a small cloth is going to take a huge amount of time and energy. I’m all for cleaning as fast as possible and using the least amount of energy possible. This is not because I’m lazy, it’s because, like most people, I have a gazillion other things to do and cleaning is not something I particularly love doing. Though, I do love having a clean environment to live and work in.

It’s a good idea to have several different cleaning cloths. Microfibre cloths are really nice to clean with because they don’t leave any little fluffy bits of cloth behind when you wipe a surface like most other cloths. I like to have different coloured cloths for different areas. The cloth that cleans your kitchen countertop should never clean the toilet or the floor. When you buy cleaning cloths for your home or office, buy an assortment of colours and if lots of different people are likely to use these cleaning cloths, then it might be a good idea to make a chart so that everyone is aware of which colour cloths are for which cleaning job. This way your cleaning cloths will not cross-contaminate with germs or bacteria found in other spaces.

Blendwell Chemicals now stocks cleaning accessories such as microfiber cleaning cloths in a variety of colours. Blendwell Chemicals is in Midrand, South Africa and we are your best local cleaning wholesaler.

Why do hands need to stay clean? HACCP

Keeping hands clean no matter what you are doing is a simple and effective way to avoid diseases spreading. In the food industry this is even more important.

There are many diseases that can spread in food preparation areas if hands are not cleaned using proper washing procedures. The diseases that can be spread by dirty hands can cause a myriad of ailments.

The shigella bug can cause diarrhoea and streptococci can give you a sore throat. Haemophilus can cause pink eye to spread and streptococcus pneumoniae can give you pneumonia. Pseudomonas can infect wounds and Hepatitis A will cause jaundice and diarrhoea. Staphylococcus will create boils. E Coli and bacteroides will spread if hands are not washed after toilet use.

None of these germs need to be spread if hands are washed regularly and properly and good manufacturing procedures are followed.
