How to clean your driveway

Cleaning my driveway is not a job I particularly enjoy doing but once it's done, it looks so good. Whether your driveway is concrete or brick you can clean it in pretty much the same way. Driveways should get a good clean about once a year.

It's never a bad idea to wear gloves, safety eye wear and gumboots. Your shoes could easily get damaged from the water and the chemical if you are not careful.

First start with a good sweep to remove leaves, dust and dirt. Then you can use a product like Blendwell Chemicals Maxikleen. Start with a mixture of about 80ml into a 5 litre bucket of water if your driveway isn't that dirty. If your drive way is very dirty then you can try starting with a mixture of 400ml in a 5 litre bucket.

Splash an area with a little of this mixture and spread it out with a broom. Do this over the whole driveway and leave the solution on for at least 5 minutes. Depending on the size of your driveway, by the time you are finished spreading the solution you can probably go back the area you started with. Using a stiff broom, scrub the surface of the driveway and work in the solution. Be sure to scrub well between the bricks or joins of concrete. Once completed, you should hose your driveway down with your garden hose. Be sure to also rinse off your shoes and wash your hands.

If you are left with any areas that still require extra cleaning then increase then amount of chemical you originally added to make-up the solution and clean in the same way on just your problem areas as before and hose down the entire drive way afterwards.
